This page focuses on how I applied assessment in the classroom to measure student learning and use it to influence my future lesson plans.

My first example in this category is a weekly reflection from my elementary student teaching experience. This reflection shows the connections I made between my own teaching and what I thought the students took away from my lessons.

The next example of my work featured below is a reflection I created as a student teacher at a local high school during Fall 2012. I administered an assessment that tested students' knowledge of time signatures and note values. The assessment consisted of a musical "fill-in-the-blank" in which the students would choose a note value that best fits the "blank" in the measure and is consistent with the time signature. Below the reflection is the URL to my work sample website in which a lot of my work is included from the Fall 2012 semester.

Reflection:

"I feel that my pre and post assessments went really well and demonstrated a good reflection of the students' understanding of the subject. My pre test provided an appropriate diagnostic assessment of what the students knew about time signatures beforehand. The post test also provided a good, short-term summative assessment of what the students learned after we reviewed the pre test in class. However, I realized that the students did not seem very interested while I was reviewing the pre test, so I probably should have went over the material in a more hands-on way that involved the students."

This final example of my work showcases the improvement I've made in my conducting during the Spring 2013 semester. I put my work in the form of a video collage in which I feature clips of my teaching throughout the semester and reflect upon them.
